The Copper River is a natural and historic treasure of Alaska. It is pred

ominately glacier fed from the Wrangell and Chugach Mountain ranges. The river can run 50,000 to 200,000 cubic feet per second. Rarely does one float this river without at least one grizzly bear sighting. The Copper River has one of the largest Sockeye and Coho salmon runs in the world. This makes an abundance of food for wildlife including seals, which are seen in the river feeding on salmon. Now, mostly wilderness, the Copper River corridor once hosted a railroad that stretched from the Kennicott mines near McCarthy to the ocean. $210,000,000 of copper ore was shipped out between 1903 and 1938. Abandoned railroad cabins and a ghost town are all part of this river adventure. Breathtaking views are experienced the whole w

ay. Never a dull moment, three large glaciers can be viewed from the rafts. The Miles and Child's Glaciers actively calve enormous chucks of ice into the river. The end of the trip finds rafters in the quaint little fishing town of Cordova on Prince William Sound.
