The Tana River is comparable to the Grand Canyon of rafting in Alaska. The water, at medium-to-high flow, is class IV+. Draining a remote section of the Chugach Mountians, this is big, fast, Alaskan whitewater. Large canyon walls, carved by the river, enthrall rafters and challenge their skills. The Tana River's 8-10 big whitewater rapids stretch 36 miles, then the trip continues another 77 miles down the Chitina River to the take-out near the town of Chitina. This is a great trip for adv enture seekers looking for a big rush followed by a scenic, relaxing float!
The put-in is accessed by a beautiful flight over the Wrangell and Chugach Mountains in a classic Alaskan bush plane. Due to fuel and maintenance expenses, the cost and schedule of this trip are subject to change.
Participants must be at least 14 years old and able to swim!
